Window Shopping

As we were outside the other day I noticed some of the little babies getting some fresh air through the window and of course had to take some pictures.

Baby A

"Wow, that is a big world."

"Too bright, I think I will just close my eyes."

Little M&M is watching the big kids play.

"What are they doing?"

"Hmmmm, maybe I'll do that someday."

I'll take one of each and could you wrap them in blue ribbons for me?

Happy Birthday 2 You

We had another birthday around here. This time it was Mr R's big day.
You only turn 2 years old once and Mr R was in great 2 year old form.

He saw the balloons we had ready for the party and he wanted one RIGHT NOW like most 2 year olds would. ; )

He was fine once we brought out the cake. See the smile on his face? We tried to do the candles outside but the breeze was too strong and kept blowing out the candles before R could try to blow them out.

When we moved inside and got the candles lit he wouldn't try to blow them out. When we had told him in English and Tagalog to blow them out he told us "no". He just wanted to watch them burn. Finally his friend, Mr D, helped him blow out one candle.

After D blew out the first one R did try once to blow out the second one...

...but was not successful so D did the honors again. Mr R was happy to watch it go out and clapped for D.

As soon as he stopped clapping he took both hands and grabbed the cake. He seemed rather confused when we made him take his hands off.
"It's my cake isn't it?"

"Yummy"

It was finally time for balloons and as you can see, Mr R was over joyed.

But once he got his balloon he seemed more concerned with the balloons everyone else had
and didn't play with his much except to hold it.

See the concern on his face?

The older kids had no concern at all but
J here was looking a bit blue.

The babies got to come down for the party and Buster wouldn't stay where he was suppose to,
so he got strapped into the highchair. He wasn't too keen on his imprisonment.
"If I give you the puppy dog eyes will you let me down?"

Mr P
This kid LOVES to have his picture taken. Can you tell?

Mr F
(I just asked what this hand sign means,
because the boys do it all the time, and I was told it means 'handsome'.)

Miss A

Baby J was excited to hear it was time for R to open his present.

Mr R wasn't sure what to do with it at first...

...but he figured it out with a little help.

The funny thing was once he showed it to the kids he threw it at them and played with the paper.
; p
Silly boy.

Baby L enjoyed the excitement.

See?

Buster got his cake but still wasn't thrilled because he was still in the highchair while everyone else was on the floor having fun.

Little Miss S wasn't sure what was so fun.

Baby M was happy.

Little Miss L, did you grow overnight? You seem to be too big for the stroller.

Baby J must have grown too!

Little Miss S still isn't sure what is going on.

Malnourishment Center Update

Just an update on our kiddos at the malnourishment center. Not all the babies are malnourished at the center, some are there because they need more care than the 'average' baby, some have club foot and others were preemie babies.

Here is Sweet Baby D when he first arrived...

3 days after he arrived...

15 days at Ruel...

19 days at Ruel...

 32 days at Ruel...

38 days at Ruel.

We are so proud of your progress Baby D!

Next we have Mr J, a returning malnourished toddler. He was so weak when he arrived he couldn't hold up his own head well, and he is 2 years old.
1 day at Ruel...

3 days at Ruel...
He starts to interact with his caregivers in play and is obviously stronger now as he can sit up better and hold up his head well.

He can hold his own milk cup.

He starts to play with the toys around him.

9 days at Ruel...

He is throwing the ball to his caregivers who roll it back to him.

16 days at Ruel...
He has been staring at me when I come to visit ever since he arrived but now he is trying to get my attention if I am not looking at him.

He has been smiling at his caregivers for a while now but he just started to share them with me in the last few days.

Look who is strong enough to pull himself up and walk with the walker!
Way to go Mr J!

Here we have Mr. I, he has clubfoot and recently had surgery on his hip. This little guy has had casts going on for over 4 months.

Right now his cast is from his waist all the way down one leg and to mid calf on his other leg. To say this hampers his options for play is saying the least but he manages to move himself around anyway.

I'm told he likes to hit his cast on the bars on his bed to make noise, such a boy.

He loves attention!

Another clubfoot fella we have is Baby S.
Here he is just a day after he arrived here. Baby S is only affected by clubfoot on his left foot.

This was the day he got his first cast.

2 weeks later

He will get his last cast today and we are waiting for his special shoes/braces to arrive, hopefully within a week or so.
Look at that cute double chin!

Baby S does smile now but I haven't caught it on camera....yet.
