First Leg Down

Good-bye farmland of Kansas.

Hello mountains of Colorado.

I've just landed in Denver and I am waiting for my next flight which says it's on time.
We should be taking off one hour from now.

Since I have some time I was looking through my pictures and thought I'd share a few that make me smile (although through a few tears).

This is my kitty, Sissy. The only way she will let me pick her up is to be standing and to hold her over my shoulder like this. I've always wanted a picture to remember this by but since she won't let me hold her if anyone else is around I had to take it myself. Sissy now has a new home and I am so thankful I didn't have to take her to the Humane Society! I hear she is adjusting fine. Thanks Nancy!!!

I have taught the high school girls Sunday School class for about 6 years and on my last Sunday they surprised me with a wonderful breakfast and then they wrote sweet and funny things on the white board about me. I am really going to miss these girls!

Well, they are talking about starting the boarding process so I must shut down the computer. I'll keep you updated on my progress as possible.

Boarding Pass!

I just printed my boarding pass! My flight leaves Wichita at 10:03 tomorrow morning. I won't actually reach the Philippines until November 1st and I won't reach the orphanage until November 3rd. I fly from Wichita to Denver, Denver to Honolulu, Honolulu to Guam, and Guam to Manila in the Philippines.

It was hard to say good-bye to my church family yesterday but I know I'll see them again and it will all be worth it. Tonight I say good-bye to my sister, my brother-in-law, and my 2 nieces. Tomorrow it will be grandma, mom and dad's turn. Let the water works begin.

T-8 days

Only 8 more days and I will be on a plane! I close on my house this Thursday so I'm in progress of packing up all the stuff still in the house. I am still wondering how I'm going to get everything packed in my suitcase that I plan to take with me and still keep it under 50 lbs. Not much else to report so I'd better get back to packing.

Baby Island

When I was somewhere around 9 years old I got a book called ‘Baby Island’ by Carol Ryrie Brink. It’s about 2 young girls, ages 12 and 10, sailing from San Francisco to Australia who get shipwrecked on an island along with 4 babies. They had many adventures and frights along the way but it all comes out right in the end when they are all reunited with their families. I read this book so much that the cover fell off and the binding is held together with masking tape. I could just imagine myself there on the island with the babies.

Well, now I’m headed to an island to work with babies and children and I’m so excited about it. Suddenly I thought about the book I read as a kid and had to dig it out and reread it. I think I had a smile on my face through the whole book. The book is definitely fiction but I still love it. =)

As I thought about a title for this blog I finally settled on Baby Island because it seemed to fit me and the situation. So even if you didn’t care…that’s the reason behind the name of this blog.  :P

19 days to go!
My beloved book.

T- 26 days

Only 26 days until I'm on a plane headed around the world. I am excited to go but not excited to start taking my house apart. I love my cozy home. I've started to take things off the walls or shelves several times and stopped because I didn't want to see what it will look like with everything bare. I have to start taking things down soon because next Saturday is the garage sale and almost everything must go.
