Highchairs And Jolly Jumpers

We just recently got some new highchairs. We are so excited about this because we didn't have any that were good for little babies and so they were not getting any practice with learning how to put food in their mouths with their fingers. Since we got the new highchairs we have seen great progress in this area of development for our babies.

At this meal I didn't really have any finger foods to give Buster so I just put some rice on his tray. I figured the rice would stick to his fingers and when he put his fingers in his mouth he would get a surprise with it since he doesn't have the concept of picking up food to eat instead of just smashing it.

Before our highchairs got here we were using bumbo seats for the babies to eat in so they didn't have much opportunity to play with their food.

I must say, it was hard to clean the rice off of his hands afterward. It was like dried glue, but Buster didn't mind. He thought it was great fun.

The next day during merienda time (snack time) I broke their bread into pieces and put it on their trays for them. Miss S isn't quite sure what I want her to do with it.

She did think it was interesting to touch the bread.

Buster had fun making a mess.

Love that smile.

Another great thing about the highchairs is that they keep our older babies in one spot while eating instead of having to chase them down every 30 seconds to get them to sit while they eat. Not that the J Man here would EVER try something like that. ; P

Rag Doll wants to share some tips on how to eat your bread.

"First you find some bread and pick it up."

"Then you open your mouth and bring your hand toward it."

"The tricky part is finding your mouth."

"Once it is in then you close and chew. You may have to help the bread stay in if you didn't get it all the way inside on the first try."

We pulled out the Jolly Jumper for some fun the other day.

As you can see, Rag Doll LOVED it!

"You should try this Miss S. It is amazing!"- Rag Doll

"Rag Doll, you were so right. This is great!"- Miss S

"I want to be a ballerina when I grow up."- Miss S

"Can I have a turn?" - Buster

"Not now, I'm having too much fun!" - Miss S

Awards

Miss P did really well in her class at school this year. I got the privilege of going to her end of school program to see her get her ribbons of achievement and actually got to be part of the process.

Some of the other girls came along for the event.
Ate Jody, Miss J, Miss P, Miss J (who was being a booger and wouldn't smile for us :)

We arrived around 9:45am for the 10:00am program... only to find out that her class wouldn't be up until 11:00am.
Since it was hot and we hadn't expected to be there that long we didn't have any snacks or drinks with us. We headed to the nearest sari-sari store for some refreshments. We purchased some crackers and cold water for the girls. They knew to bite a hole into a corner of the bag and drink it from there.

Miss J

The water was REALLY cold (they had been in the freezer) so it was hard for the girls to hold the bags for very long. It did help them keep cool out in the heat.

Miss P

We hung around in front of one of the classrooms until it was time for P's class to go up. The process was they called the names of the students in her class and they all lined up off stage. Then the teacher called out the names of the children who were receiving awards the child and their parent (usually the mother) would go on stage where the parent would place the ribbon on the chest of the child. Miss P got 3 ribbons and we got to go up for each one of them.

Afterward we got a few pictures in front of her classroom.

This is actually the classroom right next to P's but her class was already shut and locked so we weren't able to go inside. This one was set up similar to her class.

The awards Miss P got were Best In Reading, Honors, and Most Responsible.

Way to go Miss P! We are proud of you!

The Race Is On

So most days when I walk into the room a race starts to see who can get to me first.
This time it is between Buster (aka: Little C) and Rag Doll (aka: Little Miss L).

I've been spotted.

Buster starts a fake cry.

Rag Doll just heads over without any noise.

Who will win?

Rag Doll touches me first...

...but Buster pushes his way to the front. Rag Doll was not okay with this development.

Rag Doll pushed her way back onto my lap and Buster rolled off. He did bonk his head a VERY LITTLE bit but the sad face is more that he was upset at being displaced on my lap.

Don't worry, he got to sit on my lap again.

Splish, Splash

It was pretty hot here today so we pulled out the baby pool for some water fun.
It was the first time we have pulled it out since I've been here and we didn't know how all the babies would like it.

Little Miss S getting ready to go in.

Mr C and Little Miss L weren't too sure what was happening when we first put them in but after getting splashed by the bigger boys a few times they loved it!

Little Miss L

Mr C figured out he could splash. Look at the joy on his face!

Little Miss S was NOT happy when we put her in.

The three 'big boys' thought this was the greatest thing to ever happen to them.

Little Miss S is giving it another try. Mr D, R, C, B and Little Miss L are having a ball.

Mr D

Mr D was talking to Little Miss L, sooo cute.

Can you hear what she is thinking?

"Am I suppose to be having fun here?"

"Ate Mindi, can I have your camera? I want to take a picture of the water... a really close picture."

Apparently some of the neighborhood kids were wishing they could get in the pool.

Sheer Glee
Mr D

Mr R

One of the bigger boys showed C how to pull the side of the pool down and after that it's all he wanted to do.

Mr D

Mr R was yelling, "HEY!", which happens to be his favorite thing to say.

The big boys were the last ones in the pool and the game became how far can I throw the toys.

Then they would pick up the toys and get back in the pool to throw them again.
