Manila

Sorry about the lag in posting. It got pretty busy around here for awhile.

I went to Manila this last weekend on an important errand and I got to meet some new friends. On Thursday I traveled with 2 sets of adoptive parents and their new children! Two less orphans in this world!
We had an interesting trip together on the ferry and then on up to Manila where we parted ways. I met my new friend, Maricoo, at the mall and we spent the night with her friends (Jeff and Karen) at their orphanage close to Manila.
I was so excited to visit another orphanage, see how it was set up and ask lots of questions. Well, on the way to Manila I started losing my voice. By the time I met Maricoo and Karen they could hardly hear me. When we got to the orphanage, Babyanne's Mansion, it was late so we headed to bed for the night. It was so quiet there and I slept hard. (No rooster farms across the road from them!)
The next morning I still couldn't talk much. We had breakfast and then went to tour the orphanage.

Since I had no voice I tried not to touch the children much just in case I was getting a cold. I was sad not to be able to talk and interact with the children.

After lunch and nap time Maricoo and I caught a bus to our hotel in Manila.
We got some dinner and went shopping for a computer. We checked several places but I kept coming back to the second store I stopped in. I ended up buying my computer there.

On Saturday we went to Fort Santiago to do some sight seeing. Fort Santiago is a 16th century military defense structure. Does it sound like I'm typing that directly from the entrance ticket? Well, I did. :)

This is Dr. Jose Rizal. He was a patriot who was tried and executed for sedition. He did a lot of good for the people during his life time and the people have not forgotten him.

Very sobering to imagine this.

A cathedral close to Fort Santiago.

It was closed to the public. I think they were doing construction inside.

On Sunday I said good-bye to Maricoo and traveled back to Ruel. My voice is back...not sure why I lost it in the first place.
