So today was my third day of duty as they call it. The first two days I worked mostly with the preschoolers but today was my first day with the babies. Most of you will be able to guess which was my favorite day. :) The older children are a challenge as I get to know them and they get comfortable with me. They are use to people coming and going so some of them didn't care to listen to me at first. We are in progress in that area. = \
Babies are babies where ever they are and for that I am thankful. I had plenty of cuddle time today along with the dirty diapers and bottle time. They do things a bit differently here so instead of diaper wipes for a dirty diaper we clean up in the sink. It takes a little getting use to but now I'm adjusting to it.
I haven't posted any pictures of the children for several reasons. First off I need to talk to the director and find out if I'm allowed to share pictures of them or not. Secondly, I haven't actually taken any pictures of the kids yet. Some of you may be surprised by this (knowing how I love to photograph little ones) but when I think back to when I spent 3 months at Morning Star Family Home in Beijing I didn't start taking pictures until after my first week there. I want to focus on being here and helping, not just taking fun pictures. I'm sure at some point in the next few days I will start clicking away.
I'll leave you with a few pictures from my overnight stay in Honolulu on my way here.
The moon behind the palm trees.
Waikiki at night.
Also at Waikiki.
Rose took me to the Diamond Head volcano crater.
We walked up to the top which we thought would take 45 minutes or so but we were up in closer to 25 minutes.
This is Waikiki again in the day time and from above.
A light house on the shore.
Waikiki again from a different angle.
A city on a hill cannot be hidden.
If I remember correctly, in the middle of the picture is a valley and Rose and Bill's house was to the right of the valley up on the mountain side. The roads around their house are very steep! They would not ever be possible to traverse in freezing weather.
You can see the edges of the crater in the picture above and below.
